Blowing Rock Vacation and 30th Birthday

We have lived away from mountains for over 5 years now. I have fallen in love with the south and being so close to the beach but we miss the mountains terribly. I miss being able to hike anytime I want and be able to take a quick drive up the mountains to escape the hot weather. The mountains for us are now a four hour drive so we don't make it to them often. For one of our summer getaways we got an airbnb in Boone NC for a few nights so we could explore the blue ridge mountains. This was also the last trip I took in my twenties.
A few things from the trip.
We had dinner at Dan'l Boone Inn.
I locked us out of the house the first night. We waited an hour for our host to call us back before deciding to just climb in through a window. Stephen fell right on to the bed on his back thinking it would be a soft fall only to find there was a metal pole that went right through the middle of the bed. While waiting outside Everett needed to poop, so he added a nice contribution to the lawn.
There were three beds in the house. Everett somehow ended up with the coolest room and most comfortable bed. Stephen and I got stuck with the concrete bed the first night. Around 4:00am I went to nurse Nathan and just stayed in his room which was hotter but the bed wasn't as miserable. After staying there we decided on a new rule to bring bed pads to every airbnb we go to from now on.
In the morning we played Jack Johnson while getting ready.
Probably the most magical part of the trip was going outside at dusk and watching hundreds of fireflies. Then we heard Everett crying for dad from inside. He had fallen off the bed onto the floor. We took him outside with us to watch the last of the fireflies as they settled down for the night.
Blowing Rock is the cutest little town.
An older couple bought our ice cream.
We spent an entire afternoon hiking and when Everett would get tired Stephen would have him sing to help him keep going. He sang the itsy bitsy spider.
I forgot my toothbrush and out of desperation used Everett's. I'm still wondering if it was worth it.
On our drive home we passed a few Christmas tree farms. If you want to see something incredibly magical, go find a Christmas tree farm. We drove past thousands of different sized trees.
We drove home on my birthday. Stephen had Christine decorate the house for us on the way home and they even made a cake for me! It was such a fun surprise. When we got home Christine and I went for pedicures and our to dinner. It was a great birthday weekend.
