We spent the morning playing on the beach in our pj's. Papa flew Nathan over the water and he loved it. I flew Everett over the water because he thought it looked fun too. I can't say it enough how perfect it was staying right on the beach. It is what really made the trip as fun as it was. It was so perfect having our own beach access right from our house. Whether it was morning, afternoon, or evening we were just steps away. Listening to the constant sounds of the waves was incredible. One of my favorite things about going to the beach in general is the smell. I love the smell, the sounds, and I love the reflections over the water from the sun and the moon. It was such a perfect vacation.
Nathan unfortunately had a very short morning nap which I thought might ruin our plans for the day. Everett went to go get his day clothes from his room but somehow ended up in our room and then our bathroom where Nathan was sleeping. He locked himself in the bathroom with Nathan waking him up and probably scaring him too. Everett didn't figure out how to unlock the door until Stephen had almost unscrewed the whole door off. Luckily I missed out on all of that drama because I was out buying donuts with nana for everyone.
We got ready for the day, packed lunches, and headed to Roanoke Island. It is a really pretty area. We only saw a little bit of the island. I wanted to see the lighthouse there and then we walked around a small farmers market. The market was packing up when we got there so we just stayed and had lunch at one of the picnic tables there.
Then we headed back to the house to play on the beach some more. Stephen took Nathan to the water and let him walk around. Nathan loved every minute of it. Everett and Papa searched for buried treasure in the water with their metal detector. The entire trip was one treasured memory after another.
Our favorite dinner the entire trip was at the Colington Cafe. It was a fine dining restaurant but still so family friendly. They treated the kids so nicely. The service, dinner, the atmosphere and dessert were all perfect. After eating there we decided next year if we do this same trip we only need one nice dinner and it will be there. The rest of the week cooking at home will be just as enjoyable if not more fun than eating out so much.
