Everett: Spring

April
One of your favorite activities is looking for dinosaur fossils in the backyard and on our morning walks.
Your favorite dinosaur is the Stegosaurus.
We will forever have an inside joke about the white haired women in the red truck.
You talk about going fishing all of the time. Every time we go to the duck pond you find the biggest stick you can and pretend to go fishing. Sometimes getting right into the water.
I asked you to close your eyes. You responded "I can't close my eyes for more than a few seconds." My response "But you sleep with your eyes closed." Your response "No I don't. How would I see my dreams if my eyes were closed?" Good point.
You create dinosaur traps all around the house and outside.
Explaining to me one day that when I eat food the baby in my belly is then eating the food.
Digging up worms in the front and back yard with dad to go fishing with.
You love bugs and aren't afraid of them one bit.
Singing the fall asleep song to Nathan when he was crying in the car. Then Nathan started saying fall asleep and singing it too and stopped crying.
You picked up a giant cricket on our walk and showed dad and Nathan. I am horrified of crickets so I said I thought it was very cool from a good distance away.
One morning you asked if we could go to the North America park.
"Mom when I wake up in the morning want to discover every fossil in the whole life?"
Giving me blanket hugs and being so sweet to mommy.

May
You had a great fifth birthday. We loved celebrating your special day.
You brought a slimy slug into the house one day to show me. We kind of have a new rule now that bugs need to stay outside unless they are in a container.
I love when you dance around the house. I love seeing your silly dance moves.
You are getting so creative with your legos. Lately you would much rather create than put together a set with instructions.
You have officially reached the age of chatter box all day long.
On the way to the beach "My body is hurting and I am starting to poop."
Dad took you to your five year check up and I was so glad you didn't have to get shots because last time is was not very pleasant for anyone involved. You are 38 pounds 29%. 43 inches 60%. Your bmi dropped a bit because you grew a few inches. You are my sweet tall blonde boy.

June
I love our little story telling about dinosaurs and singing songs cuddling in bed each night together. Then a stand up hug and kiss on the cheek before I go.
You like to make plans for our days. Especially when it gets close to bedtime.
You had summer camp for two weeks. Day one: Played dodge ball with all of the older boys. Second day: Needed to poop and told the director "I'm going to kindergarten soon so I've been practicing wiping." Made 8 baskets playing basketball and cheered to yourself after each basket. Day three: When I picked you up I watched from the car for a few minutes you playing lacrosse with an older boy. You looked like you were having so much fun.
Playing in the backyard one night you created a little chalk drawing of all of your surroundings. It was adorable. You included the grass, a ladder dad was using, the hose, sun, clouds, a rainbow.
We were talking about baby sister in my tummy. I showed you pictures of when I was pregnant with you and Nathan. You said to me "I was so impressed when I was in there." referring to being in my tummy when I was pregnant with you.
Your goofy side that comes out when you dance is one of my favorite things.
One of my favorite things you do right now is making art projects with stickers and sometimes copying scenes from your favorite books.
You created your own book one morning and told me what to write for each page. It was a dinosaur story called dinosaurs of the world.
I love when you scrunch your little nose. Its wrinkles are so cute.
We have been discussing people of color and I've been trying to teach you a little more about respecting and loving everyone no matter of their differences in skin color and to especially stick up for anyone you ever see being treated wrongly. It was a pretty short conversation that turned into everyone has a different skin color. Some have brown, white, or black skin color. You added and pink, purple and yellow. Even though you don't quite understand yet I love having those special conversations with you about loving everyone and sticking up for people if you ever see anyone being treated wrongly.
You have started smiling again when I ask you to smile for a picture.
In the mornings when I want to stay in bed a little longer I love that you will go to the kitchen and start doing art or playing with legos until Nathan wakes up.
You are loving the beach this summer. On days that the waves aren't crazy you swim in the water almost the entire time we are there.

Everett you are such a special boy. You have such a sweet presence about you and I love our funny and random conversations that we have non stop all day long. When preschool got canceled early we struggled a bit getting along that first month or two but now I feel like all of that time we were given together was something special I hope to cherish forever. I am so proud of the boy you are becoming. Your summer camp director said you are the most polite boy there. Your little brother just adores you and wants to be just like you. I know it can be frustrating having him around constantly because he messes up your toys and creations a lot but I love that you still find times in the day to show just how much you love him. I am excited for you to start kindergarten in the fall and am really hoping that it happens. You thrive so much in a school environment with structure and friends. Seeing how much you have learned about dinosaurs in the last couple months truly shows me how much a little person your age is capable of learning. Thank you for making me a momma and showing me how much joy can come from motherhood.
