What to say about New Orleans. Stephen had a pm&r conference there and was able to meet with quite a few residency directors which was really good for him. We planned my mom coming to visit around the conference so that I could tag along. I really needed the break and was happy Stephen and I could have a few days alone together. My impressions of New Orleans are mixed to say the least. The homes there are incredible. Every single one of them tells a different story and has so much character which was awesome. The cemeteries were so neat to see. I have an obsession with old and unique cemeteries.
On the other hand I don't think I've ever felt more uncomfortable about my surroundings then I did in New Orleans. Going to the French Quarter was fun. We had amazing beignets at cafe du monde and Stephen just loved the jambalaya we had at coop's place. Going to bourbon street was a complete waste of time. Seeing children playing in the streets surrounded by booze, drugs, strip clubs, and every possible human odor broke my heart. I haven't ever felt so disgusting in my life. But enough about that street.
Our second night in Nola we ate at Jacques Imo's Cafe. Everything was incredible! We had shrimp and alligator sausage cheesecake, fried rabbit tenderloin, jambalaya, and blackened redfish. The service there was amazing and our server gave us free dessert after. That dinner was the highlight of the whole trip.
I have always wanted to visit New Orleans. I want to say once was enough for me. But if I ever get the chance to go back I definitely want to check out some of the plantations and hold an alligator. And eat more beignets!
