We made it to Dominica! We left the United States on August 20th, our 4 month anniversary and arrived two long days later on the 22nd in the morning. It was a beautiful ride from the airport to Portsmouth (our new home) and I hardly even got sick. Our driver was really nice. He stopped along the side of the road and showed us some of the places that Pirates of the Caribbean was filmed and let us smell some lemon grass and bay leaves. He told us all about the island on our hour ride to the school. Thankfully all of our 6 checked on bags, 2 over sized carry on bags, two backpacks and both of our bikes made it all the way from Salt Lake City with no problems. However our barrels were delayed about 2 weeks. Once we got to Campus our wonderful landlord Trish showed us around town and took us grocery shopping. We should have loaded up on heavy things because she was driving us home but we were just so new to everything we only bought a couple things. We spent the first day or two recovering from our long trip getting here and exploring around campus. We had a week and a half to explore the island together before school and work started up. We went to the beach a lot, snorkeled a ton, and spent way to much money on food! But we had a wonderful time together. So far we have had some fun times and we look forward to the next year and a half. This island really is so beautiful! We are so grateful to be here.
Ready or not here we go!
Our first time at the beach. Just a 5 minute bike ride from our house.
Welcoming BBQ
Watching our first sunset on the island. We found a nice little spot on the pier to sit
Secret Beach
Trafalgar Falls
A sulfur spot that runs into the river. They are all over the island.
Lookout over Scottshead
On the left side is the Caribbean Sea and on the right is the Atlantic Ocean. Pretty cool.
Lobster dinner with some friends from the branch at Sunset Beach.
Well we've had a lot of fun on the island so far but the mini vacation is over and its time for Medical School to start!
Stephen's first day of class and my first day of work!
So so cute! You are darling and I love how you can feel the enthusiasm in what you write!! I follow our families blogs and love to comment, because it feels nice being reassured someone is reading and loving the updates (plus, as far as I'm concerned, the Peirce's ARE family) :) SO SO jealous of your beautiful island home...it looks gorgeous and I'm sure you will make so many wonderful memories there. Can't wait to hear about all your fun adventures!
