Everett: 2 Months

Everett is 2 months old! He is such a happy and chill baby. Mommy and Daddy love you so much.
Two month check up: 1 ft 11 inches (75th percentile), 11 pounds 5 ounces (25th percentile).
First set of shots included saddest cry/screams this Momma has heard.
Because you are so tall you have now outgrown your 0-3 month sleepers.
You are getting stronger and stronger every day, and wiggle around so much in your crib while you sleep that sometimes you are facing the opposite direction by the time you finally wake back up.
Your bedtime routine includes a bath, bottle, then rocking to sleep.
Spit ups and lots of drool are becoming common now.
Whenever the car is stopped you cry. You only put up with being in the car seat if your moving.
Mommy is happy because she is 5 pounds under her pre-pregnancy weight!
But got a couple clogged milk ducts this month and a two day fever because of mastitis.
You had your first baby rash and lots of heat rash the weekend our ac broke.
You love your jungle gym from great-grandma Hampton.
The bassinet was to small with how much you wiggle so you are in your big boy crib now.
You smile the most while on your changing table, getting your bum changed.
The most precious thing ever is that you smile while falling asleep.
You will only sleep during the day on your tummy.
Mommy has now pumped for two full months giving you only breastmilk.
One night after your 2:00am feeding Mommy experienced her first poonami attack. Mommy was changing your bum and heard the explosion, turned on the lamp, and found poop all over the changing table, all over the dresser, all over the little picture frame on the dresser, and all over the lamp. It was quite the cleanup and afterwards you were happy and wide awake with no intention of going back to sleep.
Mommy and Daddy love you so much and love watching you grow into such a handsome little one with such a sweet little personality.

4th of July

Stephen and I love the 4th! It is the perfect time of year, we get to celebrate our wonderful country and those who fight/fought for it, and get to see fireworks! This year was a little different having our sweet Everett at home. We almost ended up doing nothing but staying at home all day. Then Stephen decided that we at least needed to go for a walk and then come home and grill hamburgers. Then he got the amazing idea that we should just grill hamburgers at the park. It was such a great idea. Lately I've needed someone to force me out of the house and to have a good time.
We packed up our little grill and went to the grocery store to buy our picnic foods. Then we headed to riverside park and set up our little picnic on the grass. It was a perfect afternoon and just what we all needed.
Later that night we were still debating bringing Everett to the fireworks because we weren't sure we wanted him to stay up so late. At 9:00 he had been bathed, just finished his last bottle before bedtime, and was sound asleep. We then decided that we would just drive to the fireworks, stay in the car, then avoid the rush heading home. Well we found the fireworks but they were blocked behind the buildings and the roads to get closer to them were all closed. We found a parking lot that let us see them a little bit and got there for the grand finale. It wasn't as fun as seeing them up close but Everett stayed asleep the whole time and went right back to sleep once we got home which is all that matters.
The next day at church was fast and testimony meeting in sacrament. Almost all of the testimony's shared were related to the 4th and the love they all have for our country. It was a really special meeting and a perfect way to end the 4th of July weekend.

It won't be like this for long

Summer is officially here! Now that Everett has joined the family it hasn't been our typical busy summer. We mostly spend our days at home hanging out and enjoying the occasional summer thunderstorm.
Stephen has now finished his first rotation in psychiatry. It was the perfect first rotation and he learned a lot. I really enjoyed it as well because he was off work every day by 12:00 or 1:00 which was super helpful. Stephen got to celebrate his first Father's Day too. I wish I had done more for it but we just ended up relaxing at home all day. My birthday was on Father's Day this year which made it a lot of fun. Everett and daddy both got me cards and some pretty flowers that are blooming around the city right now. Everett even signed his card for me. The day before Father's Day/my birthday we got out of the house for a little bit and just drove around part of the city. We planned on stopping at a park to feed Everett but the parking was 15$ so we ended up just parking in some small lot and fed him in the car. On the way home we drove through an awesome rain storm on the freeway. It was actually a pretty perfect day. Stephen is now in his family practice rotation. He is working in a clinic the first 3 weeks and really enjoying it. He is already a lot busier with this rotation and has one on call shift a week where he stays the night at the hospital.
Everett is almost two months now and is growing more and more every day. He continues to be a beautiful happy little boy. One way I get him to fall asleep for naps during the day is by listening to country music while I rock him. He seems to really enjoy it. One of those days the song "it won't be like this for long" by Darius Rucker came on. To be completely honest motherhood has been quite the adjustment for me. I've had lots of good days and some really rough days. When this song came on I wasn't having the best day or week honestly. It was a great reminder to me that these moments I have with Everett are going to come and go so fast. He will only be a newborn once and then I'll only have the memories that we made together. As hard as some of these days have been for me I know that things will get better and I'll look back on the newborn stage and really miss it. I feel so blessed to have Everett in our lives. I'm so thankful he's healthy and such a good baby. My favorite time spent with Everett is during his night feedings. As hard as it is to get up in the middle of the night I really enjoy that bonding time the most. I love rocking him, watching him fall back to sleep, and holding him close. He has such a special spirit. He's already teaching me so much about myself and showing me what improvements I need to work on to make my life better. Motherhood really is the greatest challenge and gift anyone will experience. I love this quote I saw the other day...
"Through the thick and thin of this and the occasional tears of it all,
I know deep down inside, I am doing God's work.
I know that in my motherhood, I am in an eternal partnership with Him."
